Shadowbane: Eye of Justice
This is the official author page for my fifth Forgotten Realms novel, Shadowbane: Eye of Justice (Kindle, Nook), third in the ongoing Shadowbane series.
The Shadowbane Series
The Shadowbane series tells the story of Kalen Dren, a thief turned paladin chosen by Helm, the long-dead God of Guardians, to fight darkness in the world. With his divinely-blessed sword Vindicator, Shadowbane dons dark leathers and haunts the rough streets of city after city, punishing the guilty and meting out justice where there is none.
Cursed with a numbing disease that slowly consumes his capacity for sensation, he can push himself harder and faster than other men, fearless of pain. As he wages his one-man crusade against evil, he unlocks deeper power and strength within himself, faces loss and trial, and finds and pursues love. All these things he must reconcile against the demands of his divine patron, whose face he has never seen.

<<SPOILER ALERT for Downshadow and Shadowbane>>
In Eye of Justice, Kalen returns to Westgate, the city where he was trained to fight evil, seeking to complete a task left undone in Luskan and right a wrong he allowed to transpire. Myrin goes with him, seeking truths about her past and secrets long thought buried beneath the city’s benighted streets. Both must take care, for dark games are afoot, and they are but pawns in a greater scheme. And when they cross the path of a legendary hero turned assassin called the Fox-at-Twilight, the game becomes deadly indeed.

From the Author
SHADOWBANE: EYE OF JUSTICE is the third novel in the ongoing Shadowbane series, which started with DOWNSHADOW (book 1) and SHADOWBANE (book 3) respectively. It is the tale of a never-say-die hero struggling against the forces of evil in a world full of peril. Kalen Dren, the vigilante paladin who calls himself “Shadowbane,” has turned his back on a life of crime and selfishness to chart a new course with the aid of the sword Vindicator, once wielded by the vanished God of Guardians himself. He will face legions of enemies and ultimately struggle with his own dualistic nature: the bright, goodly paladin and the dark, pragmatic assassin.
This series is particularly fun for me to write, pulling influences from my previous work as well as the vast, panoramic, much beloved Forgotten Realms setting. I delight in the scope of the never-ending hero’s quest, with its triumphs and pitfalls, such as the struggles of his dual life in DOWNSHADOW or the way he runs from his duty only to embrace it in the end of SHADOWBANE.
I love crafting the fiercely loyal friendships and bitter rivalries in Kalen’s life, in particular those of the women that surround him. I love the duality of his tortured love affair with the demonic trickster Fayne in DOWNSHADOW as opposed to his burgeoning admiration for the pure-hearted sorceress Myrin in SHADOWBANE. Taking it to the next level, EYE OF JUSTICE adds a whole new dimension to his world in the form of the elf shadowdancer Ilira Nathalan (also known as the Fox-at-Twilight, from Depths of Madness and my Realms of the Elves story, “The Greater Treasure”), a creature as duplicitous as any he has ever known–and twice as deadly.
I’m also happy to answer any and all questions about the novel and its characters. Leave me a comment here, email me at erikscottdebie AT yahoo DOT com, or find me on facebook (Erik Scott de Bie, Author) or Candlekeep and I’ll gladly answer whatever questions/comments/feedback/etc you might have about the book.
