I’m a thoughtful, curious person by nature. I can’t help it.
You know what I’ve determined?
It doesn’t really matter what you believe. What matters is what you DO.
Do good in the world. Love your fellow humans. Help those in need. Feed the hungry. Give to the poor. Welcome the foreigner. Protect those under attack. Choose compassion and respect.
To paraphrase Marcus Aurelius:
Live the best life you can—do good in the world and help those in need. If there are gods and they are just, it’ll all work out.
If there are evil gods, then what you did in life doesn’t matter to them anyway, but at least you did good for your fellow people.
And if there are no gods, well, it’s the same thing—the good you did in life will continue to do good after you’re gone, and you will live on in the memories of those who loved you.
